After a brief nine-year sabbatical spent working at Dunkin Donuts and Tim Hortons (respectively), Bud and Doug are BACK with their sure-to-be-a-hit show GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! And this time, these two dreamers are taking it all the way to BROADWAY! All they need is a producer. Oh, and a cast. Also a set. Definitely a director. And anywhere from 15 to 35 million dollars — how much does it cost to rent live animals? Point is: THEY’RE SO CLOSE!
GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! (by Scott Brown & Anthony King) ran Off-Broadway in 2007 and was nominated for a Drama Desk Award (Best Book of a Musical), as well as OCC and Lortel Awards for Outstanding Musical. The New York Times called it “a smashing success!” Then the AP called it “hysterically funny!” and Time Out NY called it “riotously funny!” (Stop fighting, mom and dad! You’re both right!)
So join Bud (Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald) and Doug (Tony nominee Jeremy Shamos) in concert, as they present their epic, superfluously exclamatory musical about Johann Gutenberg, an evil monk, a beautiful wench named Helvetica, and a printing press that might, just MIGHT teach the world to read! Bud and Doug will play all the parts, sing all the songs, and hope against hope that one of the big-time Broadway producers in the audience will make their dreams come true. Or rather: TRUE!
