Joanna Sanders presents Yiddisha Nightingale, a cabaret of Jewish songs stretching from 20th Century mainstream American popular culture all the way back to the origins of the Lower East Side’s Yiddish Theater. From songwriter Irving Berlin to doo-wop group The Ravens, from boogie-woogie trio the Andrews Sisters to pop chanteuse Eartha Kitt, the threads from the tapestry of Jewish music weave their way through original American lyrics and harmonies. The songs were daring, theatrical, wistful, sexy, and, most of all, enduring enough to fill lasting pages in the Great American Songbook.
